The Effective Professional: Communicating with Confidence I
Do you want to:
If the answer to these questions is yes, then do join us on this training course.
Speaking in front of others is many people’s greatest fear. Yet it needn’t be.
With guidance and practice all of us can be effective communicators and public speakers.
Aimed at anyone in any role at any level of an organisation, the purpose of this intensive 1 day training course is to equip people with communication skills that will be invaluable in work and life.
Developing public speaking skills improves one to one communication too (either face to face; via telephone; teleconference; videoconference; or webcast).
And, whether communicating with 1, 10, 100 or more people, the same techniques apply. Also, by encouraging people to consider the words that they use to communicate verbally, written communication improves too.
As the international language for communication in business, maritime and aviation is English, the training will be delivered in this language. But the principles learned can be used in other languages too.
The training session is limited to 6 delegates to maximise practise time (the only way to learn this key life skill). And the day is crafted to boost confidence, be motivating and inspiring.
The training will be delivered by a member of Toastmasters International (TM), a global, not-for-profit organisation devoted to the art of public speaking and leadership. The trainer is an Advanced Communicator Gold (ACG); a Past President of one of the UK’s oldest public speaking / TM clubs; and an award winner at the UK & Ireland public speaking championships.
To provide delegates with consistency in terms of Continuing Personal Development (CPD), the training is based on the TM model used at 16,000 speaking clubs worldwide. And the increasingly popular TED talks (www.ted.com) are based on the TM model too.
Conducted within a supportive and encouraging environment the course will focus on:
- Speaking before others to time
- Maximising the attention span of the audience
- Delivering a speech / presentation / talk
- Impromptu speaking (so helping when speaking at meetings; dealing with Question & Answer (Q&A) sessions; or doing an elevator pitch)
- Vocal variety
- Working With Words
- Gestures and body movement
- Learning the value of props (items) to bring alive a narrative
- The protocol for being a Master of Ceremonies / Chairperson / Toastmaster
To underpin the learning points, English poetry, history and culture will be highlighted too. That said, delegates are encouraged to celebrate their own unique culture and identity.
After attending the initial training, there are additional courses in the Public Speaking Matters suite, that builds on the principles covered on the first course.
